Sole Designer

Additive Manufacturing/3D Printing

The Masterpiece is a series of rings inspired by strong female characters from The Lord of the Rings, exploring how emotion, identity, and narrative can be translated into physical form.

Each piece was developed through in-depth character research, examining personality traits, story arcs, and symbolic meaning. Rather than focusing on functional problem-solving, this project investigates how design value can emerge through emotional resonance, material choice, and expressive form language.

The design process included extensive experimentation with PLA and metal 3D printing, allowing for rapid iteration, material comparison, and hands-on learning across multiple fabrication methods. Final metal pieces were refined through casting and finishing processes to achieve both visual and tactile quality.

The project culminated in a fully directed photoshoot and visual narrative, emphasizing how presentation and context contribute to perceived design meaning.

The Masterpiece reflects my interest in design judgment, perception, and cultural storytelling—an approach that continues to inform my doctoral research on defining and evaluating “good design.”
